At this time, Eggcup is focusing membership upon people who are finding it hard to get by because a lot of people are feeling really hard-pressed during the crisis. If you’re not sure if it’s right for you, give Jeni a call on 01524 389584. She’s very friendly, we promise! She’ll go through our membership questions with you, she’ll explain a bit more about how it works, and you can figure out if it’s right for you.
Eggcup is not a foodbank. We charge a weekly membership subscription and it’s currently £4 per week. We have some Covid-19 funding to help keep costs down. When that runs out, the membership fee will be £5 per week. Each week, members receive 2L fresh milk, half a dozen free range eggs and a loaf, as well as a fair share of the surplus products we have that week. Typically members get a carrier bag of mixed fruit and vegetables, some store cupboard items like pasta sauce, biscuits, and beans, and fresh items such as meat, sausages, cheese or ready meals.
You never know what you’re going to get so there’s a bit of Ready, Steady, Cook! You and your kids can try things that you wouldn’t spend the money on if you weren’t sure you’d like it. A lot of the food is absolutely perfect and it’s terrible to think it was heading towards a waste pile. Some items might be past the Best Before date but are still fine. We won’t give you food past its Use By date.
Surplus food clubs are a great way to stretch limited finances so you’ve more money for other essentials in life. At the same time you’re helping the planet by cutting down on food waste. And you might get to try new foods that you never knew you liked. It’s a win-win so give Jeni a call on 01524 389584.
