Volunteer
Do you have a bit of free time in your week? Volunteering with Eggcup is a great way to really make a practical difference in our community.
It is no exaggeration to say that volunteers make Eggcup work. Eggcup could not function without our team of wonderfully willing, enthusiastic and upbeat volunteers and right now we really need more help.
So, what’s it like volunteering with Eggcup? Watch the video to find out more:
Helping in the warehouse
We always need help in the warehouse. There are loads of different tasks to do: booking food in and out of the warehouse, sorting through the food, completing daily checks, cleaning and much more. You’ll learn about where surplus food comes from and be right at the centre of the action!
Serving members in our outlets
How do you fancy being a shopkeeper? We have two shop-like outlets where Eggcup members come to collect their food. Volunteers working in the outlets are the face of Eggcup. It’s a great laugh getting to know the members when serving. You could also be helping to sort the food, stock the counters, clean and generally play shop.
Admin and customer service
Our admin volunteers are Eggcup’s unsung heroes, working behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. It’s a varied and flexible role and it can be done from home (or anywhere else!) so long as you have an internet connection. A large part of the role is making and taking calls, signing up new members and support existing members with any queries or issues.
Preparing and re-packing food
Do you have any food preparation or commercial kitchen experience? If so, this could be a great way for you to use your skills to really help out. Don’t worry if not, we provide all the training you need. We make the most out of all the food we get in. Sometimes food will need to be re-packed into different sizes, or we may need to cook foods before they go out-of-date. Whatever the reason, there’s always lots to do!
Driving our vans
We are constantly collecting and delivering food. Sometimes its a collection from a local food business, sometimes it may be further afield. Whatever the location, we are always in need of people to drive our vans (and be a driver’s mate) so we can get as much food to our members as possible. This is a great task if you’re used to driving larger vehicles, but don’t worry if you’re not, we’ll give you a crash course before you get started. Well, not a crash course.
Making collections from local stores
We collect food from lots of local retailers, often at the end of the day. If you have access to your own vehicle, but not too much time available to offer, collecting food for us is a really great way to get involved. Even once a week is a big help.
